The Jones family escaped the 100+ temperatures in the last week of July by heading to Orcas Island for a week. This is the second year we have been able to vacation on Orcas as part of the support crew for the 4-6th grade camp for a local church. Jason is their head cook for the week and Amy and the boys get to go along for the ride. This year, Grandma and Granpa Poort brought cousin Bailey up for a couple of days and we got too play with them- mostly in the lake. We did not hit the triple digits like those on the mainland, but did enjoy Cascade Lake quite a bit!
The boys on the fence between our "vacation house" and the rest of the Camp Moran.
The view from our front door- the deer came down in the evenings to nibble the grass.
Jonah enjoyed sitting in on the worship times, campfires and skit nights. He really wanted to be a "big kid" at camp.
Last year, Gus had only been walking for about a month. It was fun to have him be able to actually hike with us this year...not in the back pack.
We had a fun hike where we "followed our ears" to a beautiful waterfall.
Jason in the kitchen, having fun. He has the best time with the kitchen crew.
The bubble sword- got to get one of these...maybe two.
The program staff let the boys participate in the "Mad Science" session where they were able to make polymers (aka slime and fake snow.) Too cool!
Grandpa showing off his rowing talent. We rented a row boat and the kids were able to enjoy a sunset row with mom and grandma (forgot the camera) and a morning fishing run with grandpa and dad.
